I often catch myself not listening but lost in thinking and doing something completely opposite to what was expected while mindlessly scrolling my Instagram feed.
Although I preach to listen and observe, it’s a shame, really; I have missed so many wonderful conversations just because I was distracted with my thoughts about the future or reliving the past.
Are you guilty of this too?
It’s great if you’re not. But if you are, at least you admit it.
The opposite of distraction is not focused (if that’s what you were thinking), it is TRACTION.
I read about this in the blog article by Nir Eyal, and it was pretty fascinating to me because we train ourselves to bring focus without even acting on the basics — action.
Traction means an action that moves you towards your goals.
But any action can be either a distraction or traction depending on what you intend to do with your time. Like, mindlessly scrolling through social media is not really a distraction if you don’t know what you are distracted from.
The better way to get traction in your life is by scheduling your day with activities you want to do, not just a to-do list.
Try this, it will keep you out of distractions.
Be epic,
Sahas
